Once we had replaced our front door we were ready to (finally) get going on revamping the hallway!
We had decided to leave this project until pretty much last as it is quite a small space which has sustained many knocks and dings as we completed all of our other work (i.e. bringing items like fences and the shed through the house as we have no side access).
Whilst we had most some of floorboards up to complete the rewiring, it seemed like a good time to network the house too. Mike wanted to have some hard wired ports in the Study so that we could have a good internet connection for the computer and to allow us to connect our TV to the computer so we can use it to look at photos and play music.
As we mentioned in the Wall Saga, we needed to finish fixing our electrics before we could properly start decorating the Lounge/Diner. Whilst Kate’s Dad and Mike sorted out the gaping hole in our soggy wall, our lovely electrician set to work on the rest of the room.
You may recall that our electrics were some what of a death trap when we moved in, particularly in the kitchen, and that the emergency repairs had left us without power to the under-stairs cupboard or half of the lounge. So, the electrics needed fixing and they were an obvious first step in the lounge/diner journey.
Although it might seem strange that we are blogging about renovating our understairs cupboard, it was actually a lot of work.
When we moved in the space was in a dreadful state of repair and included a crumbling lathe and plaster ceiling, a manky old moth-infested carpet, patchy plaster-work throughout and large holes leading in to the kitchen (as a result of some of the dodgy wiring).
