Preparing the Hallway

Once we had replaced our front door we were ready to (finally) get going on revamping the hallway!

We had decided to leave this project until pretty much last as it is quite a small space which has sustained many knocks and dings as we completed all of our other work (i.e. bringing items like fences and the shed through the house as we have no side access). read more

Replacing the Front Door

The front door we inherited was scruffy, ugly and no longer fit for purpose. It was definitely time to shake things up a bit.

The Old Front Door

Welcome to our (old) front door – it was a nasty dirty cream colour, as you can see below.

Inside was just as bad. Our hallway is small compact and having the fan light as the only source of natural light meant that it felt quite claustrophobic. read more

Demolishing the Front Garden Wall

We came back from a weekend away to find that our front boundary wall was missing a brick and was even more wonky than before (if possible).

IMG_5260 We had always known that we would have to re-build this wall, but we were putting off pulling it down until we were ready to do so. However, we decided it was time to act before it fell on someone and did some damage! read more

New Loft Hatch and Loft Ladder

When we moved in, there was no loft ladder available to access the loft. Every time we had to go up there we had to wedge a ladder in against the wall, climb up and lift up the simple bit of ply that rested in the hole and served as a door. We would then come back down, re-position the ladder and make the precarious climb into the loft just next to the stairs. read more
